College Football: The Overshadowed Quarterback for Heisman

Looking back at the Heisman Trophy it’s littered with some of football greatest players. In the world of football quarterbacks are king but this year seems to be different. From the SEC Derrick Henry has been gaining momentum as Leonard Fournette has faded. Also Ezekiel Elliot was gaining more fans before his lackluster 12 carry game against Michigan State and Christian McCaffrey from Stanford is on the rise. At his moment it seems like Deshaun Watson has become the forgotten man. The number one team in the nation quarterback has been over shadowed by the glamour position that was running backs.

If true football aficionados know about college football Deshaun should at least take a trip to New York if not the whole thing. Clemson’s sophomore quarterback can hurt defenses in a multitude of ways,  and pilots one of the nation most dangerous offenses as well as flashing impressive skills while helping the Tigers to a 10-win 2014 season. This year he’s few games away from the second College Football Playoffs. Watson is also making things happen with his legs.

His last time leading the Tiger they  blew out Wake Forest, 33-13, as he threw for 343 yards while running and passing for four TDs. The knock in the latter part of the season was the soft schedule ending the season ahead of their ACC showdown with Costal Division champion North Carolina Tar Heels. Still Deshaun has lead wins over Norte Dame and Florida State both ranked teams. His one glaring error is that he has three-two interceptions games. Clemson now sits at 11-0.

“As everyone as said around here and, hopefully, people will recognize this not something we’re just throwing out there, we feel like he’s the best quarterback in the country,” Clemson co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott said. ”He can manage the system; he knows where to go with the ball. He’s just a sophomore, but he doesn’t make many mistakes.”

This has been the season that Dabo Swinney has been waiting for. Everything seems to have fallen in place. Both offense and defense rank in the top 20. The 1982 National Championship victory no student athlete was born. This team has the chance to make their own legacy on the Clemson Tigers program. The latest College Football Playoff rankings will be updated. Clemson, Alabama and Notre Dame are expected to hold on to one of the top four spots at a crucial point in the season. Clemson is a lock to enter the playoffs if they win out. And that most certainly will the cause for Dishpan Watson for Heisman.
