Arch Rivals, Trinity & St. X set to clash in football

Kickoff is schedule for 8 pm Friday October 3rd 2014.  Papa Johns Cardinals Stadium will host one of the largest high-school football games in Jefferson county.   The Trinity Shamrocks (4-2) will take on its arch-rival St. Xavier Tigers (4-2). This is one of the biggest high-school football rivalries in the country. Both schools have 34 state titles combined, with 22 of those titles won by the Trinity Shamrocks and 12 of the 34 titles belonging to the St. X. Tigers. Over 35,000 fans of the rival schools are expected to fill Papa John’s Cardinals Stadium in this annual grid-iron football event. This will mark the 77th meeting of the historical rivalry game.   Both the Shamrocks and Tigers are currently ranked in the Top 10 of the Kentucky State Rankings. Trinity is ranked number (1) while St X. is currently ranked number (9).   Ryan Young and the Shamrocks are riding a 4 game winning streak after starting the season 0-2.  Trinity defeated Indianapolis Cathedral by a score of 31-19 in a non-conference game last week.   The St. X. Tigers are coming off a blow-out win against Louisville Central by a score of 46-6. The Rivalry has been one-sided over the last few seasons with the Trinity Shamrock’s on a 5 year winning streak.  Trinity defeated St. X. by a score of 29-17 in last year’s meeting of the two rivals schools, but St X’s running back TaiJon Smith and the Tigers are ready to prove a point by ending the streak this year.

“It’s very important to end the streak, because it’s one of the biggest rivalries in the country, and we want to keep it a rivalry, so we need to win eventually, and were looking to win this week, said Smith.”

St. X Tigers vs Trinity Shamrocks should be fun in Papa John’s tomorrow, so make sure you’re in attendance for one of the historical events in the country held in the city of Louisville, KY.
