Jalen Perry Leads Ballard to The LIT Crown

The LIT championship game on Saturday night featured the Ballard Bruins and the Doss Dragons at Valley High School. Ballard was led by its big three of Corey Douglas, Jalen Perry, and Anthony Eaves, while Doss was led by the excellent defensive philosophy of coach Tony Williams. Both teams possessed excellent 6th men coming off the bench in Ballard’s Brian Alvey and Doss’s Nick Anderson.

The game would begin with Ballard winning the opening tip, but Doss’s Dujuanta Weaver would score the 1st two points in the game, however the rest of the 1st quarter would belong to Ballard. Led by 10 points from starting guard Jalen Perry, the Bruins would take a 20-12 lead to end the 1st quarter. In the second quarter Ballard would really start to pull away as Perry, Slaughter, Eaves and the rest of the Bruins were too fast in transition for the Dragons.

The Ballard Bruins led 41-26 at half time and Jalen Perry would lead all scorers in the first half  with 15 points. Ballard’s Anthony Eaves was able to score eight points in the 1st half and Doss’s Nick Anderson led the Dragons in scoring with 8 points as well. Doss, although down 15, was able to get 16 points from off the bench.

The 2nd half would be all Ballard, as the Dragons tried to keep fighting but the Bruins proved to be too much. The Final score would be 80-62 as the Ballard Bruins are the 2015 LIT champions. Ballard hit 10 out of their 24 three pointers, while Doss shot only 5/18 from the three-point line. Ballard’s Jalen Perry led all scorers with 21 points, but most importantly Perry didn’t have a single turnover in the game. “I just think taking care of the ball is the most important part on the offensive side. Less turnover more possessions which leads to more scores, ” said Perry after the game. Jalen Perry was also named the 2015 MVP of the LIT tournament.

I asked Ballard head coach Chris Renner what it’s like to coach a player like Perry , “It’s Great!! Anytime you can get a guy like that who can put it in the basket it’s great!”, said Coach Renner. As for how Perry is able to score contested shots over a defense, Jalen had this to say, “It takes a lot of time in the gym to be able to knock some of those down. I was always told great players make tough shots!”  Doss will host DeSales at home Tuesday, while Ballard will play Henry Clay at Ballard.
