The Leader of The Lady Panthers
The State of Kentucky prides itself in one sport, “basketball”! While men’s basketball gets most of the attention, women’s basketball in Kentucky is on the rise as well. Both University of Louisville and University of Kentucky women’s basketball teams have been ranked in the top 25 the last couple of seasons. Still girls high school basketball has been overshadowed in the state of Kentucky, but Analyzed Sports is happy to present our first interview with a local high school girls’ basketball player.
Her name is Carnethia Brown, she’s a junior guard at Pleasure Ridge Park High School in Louisville. Brown is now in her 2nd season playing varsity basketball for the Lady Panthers and is a very intelligent basketball player. She worked extremely hard on her game during the summer with the Kentucky Retros/Legends, a local AAU basketball team. During the AAU season Brown averaged nearly 13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals per game for the Retros, while shooting a respectable 47% from the field.
Carnethia Brown is also a huge part of the Lady Panthers 6-3 start to the season. She has had two 20 point games for the Panthers one against Assumption and the other against Shawnee High School. One key-note about both performances is that Brown shot over 60% from the field. So with that said here’s Analyzed Sports interview with Miss Carnethia Brown.
Analyzed Sports: Do you prefer being at the point or two guard position?
Carnethia: I prefer playing the two guard because that makes the defense play off of me, making it easier for me to score.
Analyzed Sports: How did you benefit from playing AAU basketball over the summer?
Carnethia: Playing AAU basketball helped me work on my mid-range game a lot. It also helped me look at different ways of scoring the basketball beyond just being able to drive to the paint.
Analyzed Sports: Who is your favorite female athlete?
Carnethia: My favorite female athlete is Angel McCoughtry because she was able to change her attitude. Her attitude wasn’t the best at first, now she has gotten better and she has become one of the best players in the WNBA.
Analyzed Sports: What aspects of your game do you need to continue working on?
Carnethia: Parts of my game I need to continue to work on are my ball handling and becoming a more accurate three-point shooter. I also need to work on allowing the game to come to me instead of rushing.
Analyzed Sports: What will be the key to the team finishing out the remainder of the season strong?
Carnethia: Having faith in each other and being coachable at all times as Coach Armond would say. Also just learning to trust the system that Coach Meadows has for us.
Off the court Carnethia Brown has been doing her share of work in the classroom as well, maintaining A’s and B’s in all of her courses. This weekend Brown and the Lady Panthers will be heading to Mercer County to play in the Titan Holiday Classic. The Panthers will be playing Southwestern High School and Carnethia Brown is looking forward to leading PRP to its 7th win of the season.
