Preakness 140: 2015 Preakness Contenders
The Kentucky Derby is 9 days past us, and American Pharoah put on a show winning the 141st Kentucky Derby in front of a record crowd of 170,513. It’s now time for the second leg of the Triple Crown Series and the 140th running of the Preakness Stakes. American Pharoah will try to keep horse racing hopes alive with a win this Saturday to end the 37-year-old streak without a Triple Crown Winner. (Affirmed 1978) Although this is not the official field, it appears American Pharoah will be apart of a 12 horse field, with half of the field joining him in the gate from the 141st Kentucky Derby. Danzig Moon, Dortmund, Firing Line, Stanford, and Carpe Diem all were Derby Contenders who would look to challenge the Derby champion this Saturday at Pimlico Racetrack. Below are the race details.
RACE: 140TH PREAKNESS STAKES (GRADE 1)
LOCATION: PIMLICO RACETRACK – BALTIMORE, MD
WHEN: SATURDAY, MAY 16, 2015
DISTANCE: 1 3/16 MILES

This is a big race that is intriguing because the Top three finishers in the Kentucky Derby in American Pharoah, Firing Line and Dortmund will compete against each other in a rematch for the 140th running of the Preakness Stakes. Those top three will probably go off as the top betting choices by the betting public with American Pharoah as the favorite of around 5-6. Newcomers to the race that didn’t run in the Kentucky Derby are Divining Rod, Bodhisattva,Competitive Edge, Grand Bili, Tale of Verve and Stanford. Outstanding trainer Bob Baffert winner of the Kentucky Derby will be looking for his sixth Preakness Stakes victory, while trainer Todd Pletcher will possibly have 4 horses to try to claim his first victory in the 140 year old race. Below is the possible field for the 140 Preakness Stakes. What horse outside of the Top 3 Derby Contenders has a chance to upset them to place in the money?
